Pagan Celebrations ATC’s

7 09 2007

When the Raven’s began talking about doing an ATC swap, I was intrigued and headed out into the web-o-sphere to learn about this new (to me) artistic form.  I was directed (by google, bien sur) to ATCards, and quickly found a swap that appealed to me.  It was called Pagan Celebrations and participants were to depict, in any medium, any aspect of a pagan celebration of their choice.  I ended up doing two of Ostara, one of Beltane and one of Mabon, all watercolor on card stock.

Ostara is the Vernal or Spring Equinox, and is the source of Easter’s two main symbols: dyed eggs and bunnies.  Beltane or May Eve is a fertility festival celebrating the burgeoning plant world, the regeneration of new life, and abundance of all kinds.  I chose to represent it with an overflowing basket.  Mabon is the Autumnal Equinox, also called Harvest Home, in which we are gathering in all our harvests and thanking the Goddess for it all.  I painted the Mayan maize (corn) god, as an ear of corn.

Beautiful work…magical depictions of the Pagan story.

These are really neat, Mari. And it’s nice to know I wasn’t the only one to go looking at ATC sites (although I haven’t committed to another swap yet - I’ve just been window shopping!)
